Article Infrared

I have always been fascinated with infra red photography. The images seem to take on a ethereal glow. I recently had my old Canon EOS 5D converted to Infrared only camera. I went with the Super Color Infrared conversion by LifePixel.

On my recent hike in Franconia Notch State Park, at every spot I took pictures with both my Canon EOS 6D and the Infrared converted 5D. May be it is the novelty of something new but my infrared images seem to be better than my images from 6D. Below are a few images for your comparison, you can slide the slider to see the difference IR makes to a scene.

The above image was captured after the sun was up, the spotty sunlight in the foliage does not make a very nice color image. A foggy or cloudy day would be perfect for a color image. The IR image seems to work better in these conditions. Color image was captured using Canon 6D and IR image using Infrared Converted Canon 5D.
